Andy Serkis, who is returning as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s faithful butler, in The Batman 2, has shared that he is just as “hungry” for the sequel as the fans are. The film, which was recently delayed to 2027, is expected to begin production later this year.

“I am as hungry for it as you all are,” Serkis said during a public appearance at MegaCon in Orlando last Sunday (via the YouTube channel Love Our Life).

He revealed that director Matt Reeves had shared the story of The Batman 2 with him, and Serkis expressed his excitement, though he didn’t disclose any further details or a specific timeline for the start of filming.

Despite the recent delay that will create a five-year gap between The Batman and its sequel, this update is still encouraging for fans eager for the follow-up.

Earlier this year, in January, director Matt Reeves provided an update, assuring fans that production would begin soon. “I can tell you we’re going to be shooting this year, and we’re excited about it. We’re doing something that absolutely continues where the story left off, but it’s also something that I hope will surprise people,” Reeves shared.

Reeves also teased that the villain of the film—who remains unnamed—will catch fans off guard. “The story continues in one way, but in another, it’s completely different. It’s going to show a new side to Rob[ert Pattinson]. I think it’s going to be really cool,” he added.

Although the wait for The Batman 2 will be long, fans can get their DC fix in the meantime by watching HBO’s acclaimed spin-off series The Penguin, featuring Colin Farrell as the infamous villain.

The Batman: Part 2 is slated to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. In the meantime, be sure to check out our guide to upcoming DC movies and TV shows to see what else is in the works.
