The official spin-off manga of “Crayon Shin-chan” “Nohara Hiroshi: The Lunch Meal Style” has been made into an anime and will be broadcast on BS Asahi from October 2025. Along with this, the key visual has been released. Morikawa Tomoyuki also plays the main character, Nohara Hiroshi, and comments have been received from the author himself, the director, and the original author, Tsukahara Yoichi.

“Nohara Hiroshi: The Style of Lunch Meals” is an official spin-off of the national character manga “Crayon Shin-chan.” It began serialization in Monthly Manga Town, published by Futabasha, in December 2015, and is currently serialized on Manga Crayon Shin-chan.com, with a cumulative circulation of 800,000 copies (paper/digital) and a cumulative number of views exceeding 4.4 million (2024).

Focusing on Hiroshi’s brief breather, a job that is not depicted in Crayon Shin-chan, where Hiroshi works as a salaryman for his family, is a brief break: lunchtime meal. It depicts Hiroshi’s “daytime eating style” as he is particular about his limited pocket money and time. Not only does Hiroshi eat delicious food as a food review, but he also has many things that are typical of working people, such as trivia and how to prepare various dishes, as well as the “worry about paying for juniors,” “time-saving meals during sales,” and “boss’ complaints,” which are typical of office workers, and has gained popularity with a lot of sympathy, especially among men and women in their 20s and 30s.

It also includes pleasant jokes and surreal laughter for fans of the original work, and one of its charms is Hiroshi’s various “face-making” that she shows with each dish, such as “hot,” “spicy,” and “sweet.” Such facial expressions have been turned into online memes and are becoming a hot topic on social media, beyond the realm of manga.

This facial expression is apparently completely reproduced in the anime adaptation that has been decided. The production will be carried out by D L Yi, known for the anime “Secret Society: The Claws of the Hawks,” and will be developed as a flash animation. The director is Nishiyama Tsukasa, who directed and character designer for the anime “Human Bug University – Department of Unhappiness and Faculty of Immoral Affairs”, and also served as the general animation director for the TV anime “Secret Society: The Hawk Claws – Golden Spell.” “Scenario meetings, meetings, recordings…someone’s stomachs, including me, were constantly pounding. And the voice of the main character, Nohara Hiroshi, is of course voiced by Morikawa Tomoyuki, just like Crayon Shin-chan. Looking back, Morikawa recalls that there were a lot of scenes with Hiroshi alone, revealing the episodes included, “The amount of lines is incredibly large. After reading the script that was sent, I was even more happy that “you understand it,” and when I saw the finished video, I was impressed by how wonderful it was, and when I was present at the dubbing and Morikawa Tomoyuki’s voice came in, I felt like I was beyond the sky and even more than a galaxy.
While following the original work, the content has been further enhanced to make it even more interesting.

With Nohara Hiroshi, who has a family, I was wondering what happened to the Nohara family!, but I was relieved to learn about the content of the work.
This is a work specializing in the unknown everyday life of a salaryman Hiroshi, and also dedicated to daytime meals. I’m the sales person alone all day long, but sometimes with my colleagues. The amount of lines is incredibly large. Thanks to this, I burned a lot of calories, and the delicious food on the dubbing screen didn’t stop and the stomach sound kept coming back from stopping. It was really difficult.
